Worldcoin’s World ID gets bridge to Solana via Wormhole
On Sept. 13, Worldcoin announced that it is launching seamless World ID integration for the Solana blockchain through a new cross-chain protocol from the Wormhole Foundation.
According to a Worldcoin blog post, the Wormhole Foundation successfully completed the cross-platform bridge just two and a half months after being announced as a Wave1 Community Grants recipient.

Cross-platform authentication
World ID is built on Worldcoin’s layer-2 Ethereum chain, World Chain. Its primary purpose is as a privacy-enabled human verification service. It’s designed to allow secure, authenticated logins to decentralized applications (DApps) and other services without exposing personal user information.

The integration will allow developers working on the Solana network to more easily build World ID authentication into their DApps with the added benefit of cross-chain compatibility with services on the Ethereum chain.
Per Robinson Burkey, co-founder of the Wormhole Foundation:
“Bringing World ID to Solana is a big step forward for identity verification. With the integration of World ID and Wormhole Queries, developers can now easily build applications that prioritize real users across chains, improving trust in decentralized ecosystems.”
Worldcoin usage
Data from Worldcoin indicates the company had 6,630,191 million users as of July 31, 2024. It’s unclear how many of those users participate in the DApp economy via their World ID login, but the number of Worldcoin users has shown steady growth since its launch on July 24, 2023.
