Is the second round of Jupiter airdrop coming? This article sorts out the existing clues

In the early morning of November 4, Jupiter founder meow responded to the topic of his personal and team’s financial motivations on X. In the article, meow mentioned that he will continue to devote himself to JUP for a long time, and announced that major news will be announced soon.
Considering the topic focus of the Jupiter community that year, it is hard not to associate this “big news” with the next round of airdrops that Jupiter vaguely announced at the beginning of JUP creation.
Will there be another round of airdrops? How many shares will be left?
The first thing that can be confirmed is that there will definitely be another round of airdrops.
Before the creation of JUP, meow published a long article introducing Jupiters airdrop plan. The article mentioned that the distribution model of JUP is 50% for the team and 50% for the community. In the community part, 40% of JUP will be distributed in four rounds of airdrops.
In January 2024, Jupiter launched its first airdrop event, Jupuary, and airdropped 10% of the JUP supply to the community for the first time. According to the initial plan, this means that Jupiter still reserves 30% of the JUP share for future airdrops, that is, 3 billion JUP.
However, in early August 2024, the Jupiter community passed the first major proposal on the disposal of JUP ( J 4 J #1 ) with a 95% approval rate. The proposal decided to destroy 3 billion JUP (30% of the total supply) to reduce the maximum supply of Jupiter. The proposal requires the team and the community to destroy half each, which has caused some changes in the share of JUP reserved for future airdrops.
meow detailed the specific changes in the proposal. As shown in the figure below (orange is the data before the destruction, green is the data after the destruction), the number in the Subsequent Jupuaries column representing the future airdrop share has been reduced from 3 billion to 2.1 billion, which is a 30% reduction in synchronization with the total supply.
In summary, Jupiter still reserves 2.1 billion JUP for subsequent airdrops. It is also worth mentioning that from the above picture and other team statements, it can be seen that Jupiter still hopes to call the subsequent airdrop activities Jupuary, which comes from the combination of Jupiter and January (January, the month of the first airdrop), so the community generally speculates that the subsequent airdrop will most likely occur in January every year.
Founders statement
In the past few months, meow has talked about the next round of Jupuary in the public community many times, and we can also catch some clues from his words.
On March 21, meow mentioned that the next round of Jupuary will have quite different standards, and the community will discuss this . Meow also mentioned that the discussion of the first round of Jupuary began in November 2023 (it took three months to the airdrop execution), and the Core Working Group (CWG) will be responsible for promoting the discussion of the new round of Jupuary.
On July 1, meow responded to the community and said that he would be happy to see the next round of Jupuary become a community-driven matter rather than being determined by his personal wishes , and mentioned that the relevant vote will take place in the next few weeks (has been delayed).
On October 9, meow responded to the community regarding the snapshot standard for the next round of Jupuary, saying: The snapshot may be later, perhaps at the end of this year, but the details are still uncertain.
On the same day, meow also posted a message emphasizing: In any case, please do not use Jupiter for airdrop purposes . Jupiter is for real users. Go interact with other projects. We have never needed and will never need peoples airdrop-driven users. If Jupuary happens again, it is just a gift from the community for real users.
From meows many statements, it can be seen that he prefers the community to lead the discussion on the feasibility and specific plans of the new round of Jupuary, and the expected timeline points to later this year.
Community Response
If you open Jupiters governance forum, you will find that almost all the hot discussions in the community are about the second round of airdrops. Many community members (including some well-known people and institutions) have even proposed specific airdrop plans of their own.
Taking the most discussed post as an example (the author is Solana developer Zandor, who has clearly emphasized that he has nothing to do with the Jupiter team and the allocation plan is only his personal suggestion, not the final standard ), he suggested airdropping about 700 million JUP in the second round of Jupuary, which is one-third of the remaining 2.1 billion tokens.
Zandor suggested that the distribution be divided into two parts. The first part is a general airdrop, which is to distribute 2.5 JUP to real users of various products under Jupiter (including JUP staking, spot trading, contract trading, JLP market making, other community contributors, etc.); the second part is an advanced airdrop, which is to reward real users in a gradient manner based on the real trading volume after dehydrating the trading volume of all users, with a total of 450 million JUP distributed.
Odaily Note: The above distribution is only Zandor’s personal suggestion and not the final standard.
Zandors proposal has received a lot of support in the community, but some community members have explicitly opposed allocation based on trading volume, and related discussions are still ongoing.
Waiting for official announcement
Based on the current situation, it can be preliminarily predicted that Jupiter will most likely promote the second round of airdrops in the next few months. As the most successful project in the Solana ecosystem so far, coupled with the good response to Jupiters first round of airdrops, this also gives users another room for imagination.
However, it should be noted that Jupiter has not yet clarified the details of the second round of airdrops through official channels. The details still need to wait for official statements. There are already some phishing traps about Jupiter’s second round of airdrops on social media, so please be cautious.
