In the early stages of emerging narratives, not all those who make money are truly good or useful teams.

With the violent washout of leverage (temporarily) coming to an end, the altcoins are starting to warm up. Looking around, the first to rebound are still the AI Memes on Solana, not only the already launched major tokens $GOAT and $ACT, but also some high-volume AI Memes on-chain are surging uncontrollably.

Coincidentally, December 11 marks exactly two months since the birth of $GOAT, which is also when the market officially began to engage with AI Memes and went crazy for them. After two months of rapid learning and accumulation, the market's focus on AI Memes has gradually shifted from "fun" to "practical." The previously criticized $ai16z has today surpassed an $800 million market cap, successfully flipping $GOAT and $ACT. Clearly, the underlying infrastructure concept of the AI sector has captured some attention away from AI Agents.

Back to the market, as the overall sentiment on the Solana chain warms up, the "fast pass" projects are noticeably improving in both quality and quantity. In the early hours of the 11th, a Solana token named $arc went live and reached a market cap of $20 million within 6 hours, peaking at nearly $50 million at the time of writing.

By examining the background of $arc, we found that the team behind $arc is strongly related to the developers of an AI development framework called "rig," representing a true hardcore infrastructure concept in the AI sector. This overnight surge may also align perfectly with the market's shift in perception towards AI concept tokens.

Note: Meme token prices are highly volatile and carry significant risks. Investors should fully assess the risks and participate cautiously. Is it really a coin from the rig development team?

The official manifesto of arc states quite plainly: "we build rig, rig builds us," directly indicating the project's connection to the rig framework. Meanwhile, two articles on the official website and official Twitter briefly explain the significance of the project: "We are undergoing a transformation about 'meaning'."

The team believes that LLMs (large language models) are like an ocean of meaning, where all possible concepts coexist and collide with each other. This characteristic gradually resembles the way humans understand the world—just as our brains can naturally process meaning and context when we comprehend memes and allusions.

Based on this understanding, the arc team is continuously developing the rig framework—a Rust-based AI development framework. This is not just an agent framework written in Rust, but a tool designed to help developers navigate the "ocean of meaning." Their goal is not to replace human creativity with AI but to enhance our ability to discover patterns and establish connections, helping people better understand and utilize AI's way of processing meaning. This represents a significant shift in the software development paradigm from pure logical construction to meaning processing, which the team refers to as "a transformation about 'meaning.'"

In simple terms, the team's two lengthy articles convey: Don't you like speculating on AI? Well, we are about to do something big in the AI development field.

Then, at the end of the lengthy discourse, they attached the freshly minted $arc token contract.

However, given the current prevalence of scams related to AI concepts, relying solely on the arc team's word is certainly not enough to create such FOMO in the market. The real FOMO point in the market lies in the fact that the developers of the rig framework, @Playgrounds0x and Co-Founder @0thTachi , passionately retweeted the official arc tweet to "claim" the project, while also playing on the red-blue pill meme from The Matrix, hinting that the project will bring about significant changes.

What exactly is the rig framework?

As mentioned earlier, rig (Rust Inference Gateway) is an AI development framework written in Rust. Here’s a brief introduction:

Many people may have heard of the Rust language used to develop the rig framework. Solana uses Rust to develop smart contracts, so many top developers on Solana and engineers using Rust for AI development should be quite familiar with rig.

In simple terms, rig acts like a "smart butler," helping developers build and manage AI applications more easily. If we compare an AI model (like GPT-4) to a powerful engine, then rig is the transmission and drive system that allows this engine to operate stably and efficiently.

In the current AI framework landscape, Python-based frameworks like LangChain have long dominated. However, as application scales expand, LangChain's performance has gradually become inadequate, leaving developers with an awkward choice:

  1. Either use a simple but performance-limited Python framework
  2. Or directly deal with complex underlying APIs

The rig framework, with its higher execution efficiency and security based on Rust, provides developers with a better option.

If we use building a house as a metaphor for AI development:

  • Traditional Python frameworks (like LangChain) are like houses built with wood: quick to construct but limited in load-bearing capacity.
  • In contrast, rig is like a building constructed with reinforced concrete: although the initial investment is higher, it can support more complex structures.

With a relatively solid narrative backing, the $arc fast pass to $50M in market cap seems somewhat "realistic."

Conclusion

The wave of AI Agents has brought about a massive wealth appreciation effect and more practical visions for AI + Crypto, while also accompanying malicious teams and habitual scammers. In the early stages of emerging narratives, not all profit-makers are genuinely good or useful teams. However, as sector concepts and market perceptions mature, more teams like Rig developers with real substance are beginning to issue their own tokens, representing the entry of more "regular troops."

To borrow from the current market situation, with the ecological development brought by ai16z and Virtuals as a precedent, the rig framework, which has just appeared on the market's radar, may also see large-scale applications in the future, bringing more practical possibilities to AI and crypto narratives, and the entry threshold for AI concepts will continue to rise.
