The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) has taken over and deleted the homepage of the US CFPB website and X platform account
According to CNN, informed sources revealed that Russell Vought, the director of the US Office of Management and Budget (OMB), took over as acting director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) on Friday night. Officials from the Government Efficiency Department (DOGE), led by Elon Musk, took control and deleted CFPB's X account on Friday evening. Musk tweeted "CFPB RIP" with a tombstone emoji on platform X on Friday afternoon. The CFPB official website homepage shows a "404 page not found" error message, but other parts of the site are still accessible. Sources said that officials from DOGE have obtained administrative rights to CFPB systems, including content management systems, website backend and personnel activity directory. The current atmosphere within CFPB is described as "filled with frustration and anger". Neither the White House nor CFPB responded to CNN's request for comment.
