Popular Indian Comedian Samay Raina is now a memecoin post controversy
A memecoin called ‘OFFICIAL SAMAY RAINA’ was launched on Pump.fun just hours after popular Indian comedian Samay Raina got caught up in controversy related to his YouTube show ‘India’s Got Latent’. The controversy arose after an episode from his show was uploaded on YouTube on Sunday that exhibited certain vulgar content.
Soon enough, the viral video sparked outrage and led to a police complaint against him and YouTuber-podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia, known as BeerBiceps. The token has no official connection to Raina and seems to be an attempt to capitalize on the controversy.
The memecoin itself is practically worthless, with a market cap of just $5,625. The vast majority, 99.96%, is controlled by a single wallet, leaving just 0.03% in a developer’s hands. With minimal liquidity, there’s no real trading activity, and it appears to be another short-lived cash grab.
The controversy started when Ranveer Allahbadia asked a contestant an inappropriate question on India’s Got Latent: “Would you rather watch your parents have sex every day for the rest of your life or join in once and stop it forever?” The clip spread quickly on social media, drawing sharp criticism.
Journalist and lyricist Neelesh Misra slammed the show for its irresponsibility, noting that such content is easily accessible to children. Many users on social media called for the show’s ban, labeling it “cringe” and “brainless.”
In response to the backlash, a police complaint was filed against Raina and Allahbadia for allegedly promoting obscenity. Many argue that their content lacks accountability and responsible moderation. This follows a pattern seen before, such as when Saif Ali Khan was attacked , and similar memecoins popped up in an attempt to profit off the incident.
