Speaking at Hong Kong Consensus 2025, Financial Secretary Paul Chan Mo-po emphasized the government’s dedication to fostering a stable, open, and dynamic cryptocurrency market. During his speech , Mo-po highlighted Hong Kong’s substantial investments in digital infrastructure and talent development as key drivers of the city’s growing fintech ecosystem. “Our Cyberport and Science Park have evolved into thriving centers for Web3 innovation and financial technology, while our universities and industry partnerships continue to produce new generations of blockchain experts,” Mo-po stated. Since the launch of its crypto licensing initiative in mid-2024, the Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) has approved only nine licenses. The Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) is currently evaluating additional regulatory updates, which include listing new tokens exclusively for investors and safeguards for retail crypto offerings. The company makes investments on behalf of Abu Dhabi’s government, which serves as capital city of the United Arab Emirates. In reaction, Bitcoin’s price jumped about 0.5%, reaching $97,400, following the news. Notably, the purchase follows BlackRock securing a commercial license to operate in Abu Dhabi last November. BlackRock manages the largest spot bitcoin ETF, with nearly $56 billion in assets. While this may be one of Abu Dhabi’s biggest crypto investments, but it’s not the city’s first move into digital assets. In 2023, Abu Dhabi also invested in bitcoin mining, with Marathon Digital and Zero Two announcing plans for a major mining complex in the city. From Virginia Highlands to Buckhead, talent is prevalent — in the hipster pot bars, on the fútbol pitch, at the school auditorium, all thru the streets. The least talented venues in America might be the slam poetry competitions in Alphabet City or open-mic nights at Williamsburg comedy clubs. Something about liberal hyper-tolerance breeds less-than-average performance. Perhaps it's an aversion to truth. So it goes. Regardless, low talent is uncommon in America. It's not like that abroad. The ceiling is lower and so is the mean. And it's palpable. Have been abroad a good portion of the last 4 years, and talent doesn't just hit you on the metro, at a restaraunt, or on the street. It's more rare, often covetted and pushed thru more organized and professional settings. Regardless, it's obvious this performance isn't representative of every performance you'd expect to see outside the States — but it reminded me of the mean, of most of my experiences seeing people sing, dance, or rap outside the borders of the US of A. Whether it's a handful of young prodigy coders building algorithms to collect and detect fraud in government organizations or a contestant from America's greatest past-time (singing shows on TV) on the verge of double platinum, we will continue to be the capital of birthing, fostering, and attracting the greatest talent humanity offers.
